Sugar flowers may look complicated to make but just follow my easy step by step instructions and you will see how easy it is. This beautiful flower which is in between a rose and a peony, can be made with fondant or gumpaste. Perfect for a wedding cake, anniversary cake or even as a cupcake topper. To create the look, you will need two different sizes of this cutter which is used normally for making roses. Using white fondant or gumpaste, cut 1 piece using your biggest size cutter and another using a smaller size.
Place your shapped piece on a foam pad. Using your Rolling pin thin out all the petals. (see picture #1) Then, using a ball tool, thin out the edges of all your petals.
Using the tool seen in the first picture, apply a small pressor on each petals starting for the top of the petal all the way to the middle of the flower. (make this step for both pieces that you have cut previously). (this will create a realistic effect of veines)
** If you don't own such tool simply use a toothpick to create the same look.**
Place your biggest piece on a cardboard egg container just like shown on the picture. Place the petals however you would want them to dry. Then, place your smallest piece in the middle of the biggest. Glue both pieces with a small amount of water in between. (see second picture) Gather all your smallest petals in the middle. Using some wax paper, place small paper in between petals to hold them however you would want them to look like once dry. Let your flower dry at least 24 hours before doing the next step.
Brush red or dark pink edible luster dust with a clean brush in the middle of your flower.
Dilute the same edible luster dust color used in step 4 with a little bit of vodka. Brush some paint on the edges of the petals
TIPS: Vodka evaporates once dry, with this said, there will no longer be alcohol in your project once dry. If you don't trust this action, you can also dilute with lemon extract. Do not use water, Luster dust is not water soluble and you will get a sticky mess.
For the center, create an oval shape using white fondant. Then, using small scissors cut the edges of the entire piece. (see picture)
Start by brushing some yellow edible luster dust and finish with a small amount of black luster dust.
Glue your middle part to your flower, using either candy melt or edible glue.
